Birth years recorded for respondent's parents range from 1860 to 2010 for the 2011 wave. How can this be possible? There are a scattering of birth years in the late 1900s and early 2000s that are nonsensical for a respondent base that is allegedly 45 years or older. Can anyone shed light on the coding process of the parental birth years, or offer thoughts on how to address these discrepancies?
Thank you!
Birth years of parents
Re: Birth years of parents
We know this issue, the treatment may be arbitrary, so instead we just release the raw data, and let users to choose the appropriate method, such as missing the nonsense value, or infer the value from other information.

Thanks so much for your reply. I am surprised to find spikiness in the distribution of respondent birth years as well- is anyone aware of substantive explanations for this, or is it likely a case of rounding?
